IT and Engineering Faculties has convened the eight international programming contest regarding the Palestinian level, and for the first time, regarding Gaza.
In the Islamic University of Gaza’s Labs, thirteen teams of different Gazan University have participated in the contest, three of which are from IUG’s IT faculty, and other two teams are from IUG’s Engineering Faculty. Regarding other universities in Gaza, Al-Azhar University has been involved in the contest with two teams, and Al-Aqsa University and University of Palestine have participated with two teams each. Gaza University and UCAS have, on the other hand, participated with one team.
In parallel, the contest has been held in Gaza and the West Bank, and it was held in Communication and IT Ministry in Ramallah. Generally, this international contest is known as the biggest and the grandest programming contest in the world as it is organized by the international organization ACM. It, first, started in 1970 as a domestic contest in the United States; right after, it was internationally spread where Arab countries started to participate in 1998. Nowadays, 3000 universities from 82 countries around the world participate in the context.
The prime goal of the contest that it enables the international students to meet and learn from one another, and also it helps the students improve their programming skills. The teams participating are representatives of their High Education Organizations in their countries, then the first stage of the contest is held locally in each country, and the winning teams then participate in the final stages internationally.
The organizers of the contest in the Gaza Strips, Dr. Wael El-Sarag and the engineer Osama Radwan, from the faculty of computer engineering, have done all the procedure and the required arrangements for the contest.
This year, most of Gazan universities are participating in the contest, and the selection committee is from ACM international organization. The contest is, in this year, held and sponsored by Speedclick company www.speedclick.ps, Engineer Syndicate www.enggaza.ps, and the Palestinian Computer Organization www.pcs.org.ps.
