Symposium on Energy-Efficient Buildings in Gaza

Symposium on Energy-Efficient Buildings in Gaza

Architectural Engineering Department in league with the Institute of Architectural Sciences in Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) have held, this morning, a symposium and exhibition for the sake of sharing and exchanging the knowledge, research findings, new ideas and projects related to energy efficient building field.

According to Prof. Muhaisen, he said at Tiba Building that: ” the symposium helps broaden the horizons of knowledge for students who are on their way to design energy-efficient building”.

One of engineering students reported that she and her colleagues are in desperate need to know comprehensively how to design an energy-efficient building; she added that she is working on a graduation project highlighted this project.

The two-sessions symposium discussed several topics: solar architecture, intelligent buildings, sustainable urban planning, renewable energy applications, energy efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning tools, PV design and installation and geothermal energy in building.

This symposium is an extension of a series of activities included in CBEEB Project that concentrates on building the capacities for energy-efficient buildings, with a view to drive the Gaza strip into a sustainable built environment in Gaza.

Prof. Muhaisen clarified a bunch of results out of CBEEB project, he mentioned that they designed a 60m eco-house building to be constructed soon at the university. In addition, two labs have been inaugurated: computer and energy-efficient room.

On the academic level, two master and bachelor courses have been developed and different research participations took place at international conferences. The corner of books that includes energy-efficient books contains more than 160 books in English language.

On the practical side, 50 trainees from different sectors were indulged in training workshops and field visits to companies, under the supervision of the CBEEB team, to review the developments and techniques that are utilized in the energy-efficient buildings.

It’s worth noting that CBEEB Project has been funded by Austrian Partnership Programme in Higher Education and Research for Development (APPEAR) through Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC).
