A teamwork from the Islamic University – Gaza arrived in Vienna- Austria to participate in a training workshop that targets IUG administrators and academicians, mainly, to train them on making plans for research data management. In addition, train the directors of scientific research and Computer Center to assist the institutional repository in preparation for receiving accreditation for institutional repositories.
The workshop was held from 6th to 13th September, 2019 within the framework of “Research Output Management through Open Access Institutional Repository” project, through the Ministry of Higher Education and the EU-funded ROMOR program.
The team consists of Prof. Rawia Awadallah, ROMOR project manager, Prof. Samir Afifi, Prof. Bassam AlSaqqa, Dean of Scientific Research and Higher Education and Prof. Anwar Awadallah.
The administrative group from the university has also participated in the project. This group includes Mr. Mazen Aljamal and Mr. Mohammad Hammad from the Dean of Scientific Research and Higher studeies, from the Information Technology, Mr. Hammam Alnabahin, Mr. Ahmad Fares, Mr. Alaa’ Ahmad and Mr. Khalid Jaber participated.
Prof. Awadallah pointed out that the Islamic University has ensured the success of the project from the get-go and introduced a unique experience to come out with the best results at the scientific and applied level, thriving towards supporting the participating Palestinian universities with all the experience and development of sustainable institutional and research repository.
The visit also covered several meetings with research facilities of data management and the team got to know the European experience up-close. Members of the Computer Center made a field trip to the Computer Main Center in Vienna University of Technology to observe the modern technologies in use and how the work is managed. Another team member visited one of the largest research facilities in Vienna and learned about the major scientific researches related to the Internet of Things and Information Security.
