IUG Hosting 2nd Call Ceremony for Palestinian-German Cooperative Project.

 

In a ceremony held at Ramallah city via video conference with IUG, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has declared the winning projects in the second call ceremony in science and scientific research, which has been included in Palestinian-German cooperative Project.


This great event had been attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Mahmoud Abu Moies, the Minister of Education, Prof. Marwan Hurtani, the Head of African solidarity and the middle east in the Germany Ministry of Education and Research Mr. Peter Webers, the German Representative in Ramallah Mr. Cristian Gelix, the president of Islamic University of Gaza Prof. Nasser Faraht, the Vice-Dean of scientific research and Post Graduate studies Prof. Amar Abu Hadrous, the-Vice Dean of scientific research at Al Azhar University Prof. Mostafa Abu Nasser, and the winning researchers at the first call and the second call of the Palestinian Germany Solidarity Project.

Prof. Abu Moies has stressed on the importance of scientific research, especially in the Tech development and the Industrial Revolution. He clarified that the Palestinian-German Cooperative Project is an outcome of a bilateral agreement between the two ministries to encourage scientific research in Palestine. The agreement stipulates on making mutual scientific research in various fields between two German and Palestinian researchers. In the second call, the research project funding reached 400,000€.


Prof. Hurtani, in turn, has commended the Palestinian-German collaboration through Jülich” institution and Palestine Academy for Science and Technology, expressing his high hopes that these projects would provide an opportunity for researchers and university graduates to apply their ideas in their work.

Mr. Webers has also praised the collaboration considering the project to be a part of the scientific Palestinian-German bridge. The choosing of these projects must be prioritized, he added.

 

Prof. Nasser Faraht has pointed out that in light of the decreasing funding sources for the scientific research in Palestine and based on the given need for scientific research in Palestinian universities and for the Palestinian researchers to implement various scientific research projects, the Palestinian-German cooperation grant between the Ministry of Higher Education in Palestine and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Germany has provided a financial support of over 40,000€.

 

The grant offered an opportunity for Palestinian researchers to collaborate with researchers from German universities and research centers which will provide mutual experience in various scientific fields in Palestine, Prof. Farahat added.

Prof. Farahat also highlighted that the Islamic University has been distinguished by research projects that it got 6 projects in Energy, Micro-projects, entrepreneurship, Physics and Engineering during the first and second call.

Lastly, Prof. Amar Abu Hadrous reviewed the opportunities and challenges facing Scientific Research in Gaza Strip that there is poor funding, Siege and everyday life problems like electricity and water shortage and freedom of movement and travel.
