The IUG Architectural Engineering Dep. jointly with the Palestinian Engineers Syndicate have finished the activities of Appear Project “Capacity Building for Energy- Efficient Buildings”, which funded by the Austrian partnership programme in the field of higher education and scientific research for development and with the Austrian Development Community in partnership with Architectural Sciences in the Technical Vienna University.
This course aims at training a group of engineers and staff on designing and establishing energy efficient buildings. In addition, it has comprised several ways of promoting awareness regarding the importance of energy efficient buildings. Moreover, it has enhanced the dissemination of the culture of Energy efficient building among people. This, in turn, will water down the atmosphere of energy shortage in the Gaza Strip.
The course included eight sessions in diverse topics: Introduction to Energy Efficient Buildings, Sustainable Urban Planning, Solar Architecture, Building Materials and Thermal Insulation, Renewable Energy applications, PV Design and Installation, Energy Efficient HVAC.
The targeted people of the 24-hours course were male and female engineers regardless of their minor major. They were supervised by great and knowledgeable supervisors. Loads of visits were paid by the students and their supervisors, during the course along, to the solar cells systems at the Islamic University-Gaza and to Abdul Salam company for underground energy as well.
To add emphasis, this course is comprised under the project of capacity building regarding the energy efficient buildings. This project aims at raising the social attitude towards sustainable architectural environment in Palestine, building societies of researchers that enhance knowledge exchange in the mentioned field. Moreover, it means raising the competency of the local institutes’ workers in designing and implementing sustainable buildings.
The course sheds the light on merging this project with the academic programs in the IUG architectural engineering faculty and other colleges. And it emphasized the significance of the ongoing partnership among the universities of Gaza and Austria.
