IUG Celebrates The 100th Anniversary Of Nelson Mandela’s Birth

In cooperation with the South African representatives of Palestinian Authority, IUG celebrated the 100^th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s birth who led his people towards freedom and the disposal of the racial discrimination system.

The celebration has been honored by the presence of His Excellency the South African ambassador Ashraf Solayman, IUG president Prof. Nasser Farahat, the president of International Relations Prof. Basem Naeem, the president of Dar Al-Hekma Institution Dr. Ahmad Yousuf, Art Faculty member Prof. Mosher Amer in addition to many IUG council members and a number of interested students.

 H.E. Mr. Ashraf Solayman delivered a speech regarding the South African struggle that can be summarized in three points: gathering the South African nation under the leadership of the National Congress Party led by Nelson Mandela, releasing all the prisoners before starting the negotiation with the racial discrimination system, holding the negotiation inside the country. Solayman declared that Mandela didn’t reject the armed struggle, and he saw that his people had the right to fight by all available means. He refused to be released from the prison for 27 years despite the temptations he was given to abandon violence and condemn the armed resistance.

“The similarities and differences between the Palestinian and South African experiences aren’t the case, but Palestine is in need for a Palestinian Mandela to lead people towards freedom,” he said. ” the reality is miserable but we have hopes in Allah who doesn’t break promises; he certainly defends the truth and beats falsehood,” he added.

H.E Mr. Solayman opened an exhibition made at the university to represent the historical struggle of Nelson Mandela with Palestinians.
