The Conference Hall at IUG has witnessed, over the 10th / 11th from this month, the launching of the seventh scientific conference of the Faculty of Medicine. The conference met with broad participation from official, national &international Institutions, alongside well-known personalities working in the area of emergency and crisis. It was under the patronage of the Prime Minister, Dr. Rami Alhamdulillah, Dr. Sabri Saidam, Minister of H.E, Dr. Mofeed Hasaina, and Minister of housing & public works. Additionally to, Nasr Aldine Muzainy, IUG Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and the president Prof. Nasser Farahat and a host of professors from Medicine Faculty
Opening Session
Delivering his word, Dr. Jawad Awad, the Minister of Health, praised the medical personnel efforts exerted in times of wars and emergencies; the medical sector was able to handle all emergency conditions and secure hundreds of patients from certain death. He confirmed that supporting sectors, developing centers, finding solutions are basic priorities of the government. As he noted, the Palestinian government would consider the conference recommendation when planning
for future projects because there was an abundance of war-experiences the conference have been focusing on.
University and Community Service
Prof. Al-Muzaini also pointed out that the medical conference is important to shed light on the reality of crisis management, emergencies, and challenges; on the other hand, it allowed taking advantage of local and international experiences.“The conference comes to continue and affirm the great role played by the Islamic University in serving the Palestinian community in all fields,” as he said while embarking upon the advanced position the university reached among the best and finest Arab universities. In this regard, He announced for a well-equipped educational hospital, named “The Palestinian- Turkish Sadaqa hospital” located on the university floor and funded by the Turkish government He praised the university endeavors of weaving more international relations and cooperation with many scientific institutions around the world.
Panel Discussion
The proceedings of the opening session featured a joint discussion of the Conference’s interlocutors, chaired by Prof. Mohammad Al-Kashif, with the participation of Dr. Yousef Abu Rish, Ministry of Higher Education, and Dr. Mahmoud Tahir from WHO, Dr. Gabriel Salazar, and Dr. Noel Tsicoors, from UNOCHA, Dr. Raed Yaghi, Civil Society Foundation, and Dr. Sandro Colombo, international expert.
First Session
The first day involved two scientific sessions: The first chaired by Dr. Bassam Abu Hamad, entitled “Experience of International organizations in disaster management”. It dealt with several topics, the most important of which were: Experiences of UNRWA, UNOCHA, UNICEF, ICRC, Health cluster and QRC.
Second Session
Concerning the second session, it was chaired by Dr. Mahmoud Serdaha, entitled “Experiences of international community organizations in disaster management, Part II”, most notably of which were: IRPAL, UNFPA, MAP, Palmed Europe.
