Skype-Meeting With Tampere University To Develop Teaching Staff

Through “eTraining FinPal” programs, and under activities of the initiative to develop pedagogical practices in Pal.H.E.I, IUG team has participated with the University of Tampere in a project to develop and evaluate IUG teaching staff. The Skype- meeting consisted of Prof. Nazmi El Masri, project manager, Prof. Alyan Alhouli, Prof.  Bassam El Sakka, Prof. Ayman El Sakka, and Prof. Azza Al-Sahar, project coordinator. And from Tamper the team consisted of Prof. Visa Kuhonin, Prof. Yuri, Prof. Paulina and the coordinator Veizen.

The First phase of the eTraining FinPal project implementation has focused on assessment of the context and needs of the teaching staff at the Islamic University of Gaza.

During September 2017, IUG team prepared a report on IUG institutional practices and mechanisms for evaluating and enhancing the pedagogical competencies of its teaching staff. The report provided a detailed description of departments involved and tools used in the process of appraising the performance of IUG academics.

Furthermore, the assessment phase also included data collected through a questionnaire on pedagogical competencies. The aim of the questionnaire was to collect data on pedagogical approaches and teaching methods of the IUG teaching staff. The questionnaire will be piloted and administered in November 2017.

The assessment phase will be concluded with a panel assessment analysis workshop. In which the project teams will discuss the collected data and outline the aspects to be taken into account in designing the training program at IUG pedagogy. Assessment analysis workshop will have been organized late December- early January.

The Collected data and the assessment process results will (1) contribute to better understanding of the situation at IUG, (2) provide a basis for developing the training program, and (3) provide material for joint research publication.

It is worth mentioning that IUG won the project in Marc 2017 in partnership with Tampere University, Finland.
