IUG Faculty of Science has established a research group to study cancer and find useful diagnostic and therapeutic solutions for it.
The establishment was in a workshop held by the faculty, which discussed the increase of cancer risks, and the increasing need for scientific research helping in discovering the causes of the disease, and how to diagnose and improve the available therapeutic facilities.
The research group consisted of Dr. Sae’b Owaini, head of the research group, Dr, Fayez Al- Mabhooh, Dr. Kamal Al- Kahloot and Dr. Tareq Al- Basheeti.
The research group is helped by a group of researchers from Chemistry Department including, Prof. Adel Awad Allah, Prof. Bassam Abu Thaher and Dr. Sa’ed Al- Kurdi in addition to senior researchers. The research group has discussed many topics, such as finding diagnostic symptoms for cancer diagnosis, finding new targets in the cancer cells and looking for new therapeutic solutions for cancer.
It is worth mentioning that the group’s first meeting was attended by Prof. Nizam Al-Ashqar- Dean of Faculty of Science and Dr. Zeyad Taha, Qatari “Search” Scholarship Manager, who praised the group and expressed their support for it.
