Children like to listen to bedtime story, but what if it is changed into an electronic application with voice, especially that children are fans of smart phones these days. “I am an Arab”, is an electronic application supporting narrative content, with two copies on Android Play Store, one of which is readable, while the other supporting voice. It combines comedy, adventure, imagination, science, technology, culture and history. It is also provided in a way combining interest and benefit, and considering Arabic language and culture.
A Cultural Alternative
In SEED project, Asma’a and Somaya Abu Tailakh have replaced mythical stories with guided storied enriching their knowledge. Since you read the stories such as Depths World and Future Rescue, you will notice cultural variety, about which Somaya said, ”We write history, comedy and adventure to attract children using Islamic and Arabic culture.”
A Qualitative Application
Many IUG Faculty of Commerce graduates worked on this application. In addition, the application is the first of its type since all previous applications are read only, while “I am an Arab” provided read and voice stories to aloow interaction with stories.
Regarding the application advantages, Somaya said, ”this application allows parents to interact with their children since there is time to sit with their children and tell them stories”
Increasing Applications
About the concerned class, Somaya mentioned that they aim at Arab children outside Arab countries, and who cannot speak Arabic. The application on the site is noticeably increasing. Somaya also said that they made a study about the Arab community in America, and the results showed that the Arab there need who teach Arabic to their children.
