IUG has celebrated the conclusion of SEED Project for Start-Ups Economic Empowerment and Development, which was implemented by IUG Community Services and Continuing Education Deanship with partnership of IUG Business and Technology Incubator, and funded by Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah through UNDP and DEEP.
The ceremony was held in the Conference Hall of IUG Graduation Ceremonies-Conference Center. It was attended by Dr. Ma’amoun Abu Shahlah, Labor Minister, Prof. Adel Awad Allah,IUG President in addition to Dr. Sa’eed Al-Ghora, Dean of IUG Community Services and Continuing Education, Mr. Basel Nasir, UNDP representative, Mr. Refa’at Diab, representative of Islamic Development Bank in Gaza, representatives of leading institutions in Gaza Strip, members of Supervisory Committee of SEED project and a large number of students and IUG staff.
In his speech in the ceremony, Dr. Abu Shahlah praised IUG care of Societal issues and suggesting solutions that helps in developing them. He also praised IUG services and programs provided for Palestinian youths to decrease unemployment effects.
Dr. Abu Shahlah also mentioned that there are about 400.000 unemployed Palestinians, and that the government cannot offer jobs for them. He also said that the private sector is weak and cannot provide permanent jobs.
For his part, Prof. Awad Allah said, “We are celebrating SEED Project, and seed means life and growth. Working is life.” He also noted that the goal of SEED project is to find jbs not only for Pioneer youth, but only for small companies working with them.
Prof. Awad Allah also noted that SEED project is one of IUG duties.In addition, he stressed Universites and ministries responsibilities towards Palestininan youths to meet their hopes. He also thanked all of those who participated and were involved in SEED project in addition to all of participants’ trainers who helped them to meet their hopes.
For his part, Mr. Nasir stressed UNDP’s efforts to help Palestinians to overcome unemployment. He also noted that UNDP had funded Pioneer pojects with large amount sof money this year to achieve progress of the Palestinian society. Mr. Nasir mentioned that projects are mre important than money spent for its sake.
Assigning a collaboration agreement for SEED project (2) between IUG, represented by Dr. Sa’eed Al-Ghorra, Dean of IUG Community Services and Continuing Education, and UNDP represented by Mr. Basel Nasir, was announced.
After SEED project closing session, Dr. Abu Shahlah, Prof. Awad Allah, Dr. Al-Ghorra, Mr. Nasi and Mr.Diab opened the exhibition of the 16 pioneer companies that participated in SEED project.
