IUG Chemistry Professor Dr. Bassam Abu Thaher got a patent recorded in the U.S for the treatment of cancer. The patent is about a study he conducted on a group of new chemical cyclic organic compounds and their biological impact as effective inhibitors of a group of Kinase Enzymes, such as Epidermal Growth Factor Receptors (EGFR, VEGFR , SCR and BRF) on some cancer cells.
Prof. Abu Thaher conducted a comparison between these new compounds and some of the drugs used in the treatment of cancer cells.. The study showed the effectiveness of the new compounds compared to the drugs used in the market.
He said that the research will continue and the new compounds will be linked to a group of peptides, carbohydrates and lipids to improve their characteristics and their effectiveness in confronting cancer cells.
