UNDP Delegation Visits IUG Business and Technology Incubator

 

A delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) visited Business and Technology Incubator at the Islamic University of Gaza. The delegation included Eng. Anas Al-Hasnawi, an international expert and counsellor of economic empowerment at Islamic Development Bank, Eng. Jumaa An-Najar, coordinator of Islamic empowerment programme at Islamic University Bank and UNDP, and Eng. Tarek Shatat, DEPP economic project at UNDP.


Dr. El- Ghorra, Dean of Community Service and Continuous Education, welcomed the delegation and appreciated the great efforts of the United Nations Development Programme and the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah in serving the Palestinian community by giving a helping hand to improve its conditions. He also viewed the IUG Business and Technology Incubator as most important achievement in the field of Entrepreneurship. Dr. El- Ghorra stressed that the university is keen on developing the capabilities of young people by providing them with projects incubating their ideas.


Mr. Ashraf Hijazi, project coordinator of “Seed Project”, informed the delegation about the projects incubated by “Seed Project” through a field trip. He talked about the stages of projects’ implementation, the mechanism of incubation, and the most important services provided to the entrepreneurs. He also pointed to the good quality of these projects and their ability to create constant job opportunities.


The members of the delegation praised  the distinguished level the Islamic University has reached and the university’s great contribution to the development of the the local community through the projects it provides for the entrepreneurs. They also lauded  the projects incubated, especially those specialized in developing the infrastructure of information technology and promoting the community development process.


Ways of joint cooperation were discussed between the Deanship of Community Service and Continuous Education and the United Nations Development Programme regarding the projects implemented by the Deanship and the ways of developing the entrepreneurial ideas. Eng. Anas El- Hasnawi, international expert and counselor of the economy empowerment programme in the Islamic Development Bank, pointed to the importance of projects produced by teleworking. He called for going into a partnership in order to promote these projects and construct a clear framework of this field, which has become important, especially due to  the siege  imposed on the Gaza Strip.
