IUG Centre for Architectural Heritage (IWAN) started the process of renovating Deir Khader archeological site located in Deir Al-balah city. The project is funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) through UNESCO and the Belgian Leona Foundation.

The project’s execution will be carried out by Asas Company for Engineering and Construction, the main contractor of the project. Once renovated, the site will be used as a public liberary,e specially for children, and will be under the supervision of Noon’s foundation for Arts and Culture.
Dr. Suheir Amar, head of Iwan’s center for archeological heritage, said that Asas, the project’s contractor was chosen through a tender that included many other contractors. The project, she stresses, aims to bring together the local and international efforts in preserving the heritage and history of Gaza Strip since Deir Khader site is a unique historical and archeological site.

Engineer Nashwa Ramlawi, pointed out that the project will be carried out over the course of three months. All architectural and construction problems will be attended in addition to rebuilding the collapsed parts to prepare the place for its future function as a library.
