IUG English Department Holds a Seminar Entitled “Towards A Flourishing Pedagogies”

 

In cooperation with the University of Glasgow, the English Language Department at the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) organized an online  seminar hosting Dr. Katja Firm Burger, Dr. Lin Ma and Dr. Ross White, faculty staff from Glasgow University, via Skype. The seminar discussed the advancement of teaching English Language in more creative ways within the project “Crossing Boundaries in teaching Foreign Language and Translation in Palestine”. The seminar was attended by staff and students from the English department at IUG.


The seminar addressed how to enhance the capabilities and skills of students of political asylum coming from the Arab world and Africa with regard to English language learning and mastery. It also talked about  providing psychological support to these students when necessary in a creative way in order to give them the chance to express themselves and their cultures.


The head of English Department Dr. Baroud stressed  that the department is keen on encouraging its  students to open up to the world and step forward toward an educational future of creativity, excellence and self-development. He recommended activating communication between students from Palestinian universities and Glasgow University students as a part of experiences exchange. He also encouraged finding new creative ideas for teaching the English language which combine Literature and Art with language teaching.

 

The seminar saw  lively discussion by professors and students of the English department and the speakers.
