IUG discussed with Carlos Moedas, EU’s Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science the various programmes offered as part of the UE-funded Horizon 2020. The meeting which was held via video conference was attended by several academics from Gaza, and by Mr. Moedas and other representatives of Palestinian Higher Education institutions and Scientific Research based in Ramallah.
“It is important to participate in the EU’s funded scientific research projects. It contributes to the improvement of scientific environment and scientific research outcomes through establishing partnerships with widely known universities and research institutions,” explained Mr. Moedas.
Mr. Moedas also pointed out to a group of guidelines that could help increase the opportunity of Palestinian universities’ participation in Horizon 2020 programme. Some of these include training the researchers on how to write project proposals, holding introductory workshops about the programme, and encouraging the youth to exchange information, participate, and make use of the PhD scholarships offered by Marie Curie scholarship programme.
