Mr. Brendan McSharry, British Council’s Country Director in Palestine, visited IUG on Tuesday, 3rd November 2015. During his visit, Mr. McSherry commended IUG’s efforts in promoting education and entrepreneurial projects for various segments of the society including people with disabilities. Dr. Adel Awadallah, IUG President, Dr. Nazmi Al-Masri, Vice President for External Relations, and Dr. Mosheer Amer, Director of Public Relations and other senior officials at IUG received Mr. McSherry and his colleagues from the British Council in Gaza.
Expressing his appreciation of IUG’s community service record including its support to and integration of students with visual, physical and hearing impairments, Mr. McSharry also stressed on British Council’s interest in enhancing existing and future cooperation with IUG.
Mr. McSharry was also introduced to the different creative projects adopted by IUG in the fields of business and technology.
Dr. Awadallah outlined to the British Council’s visiting delegates the academic programmes that IUG offers at PhD, MA, BA, and professional diploma levels. Dr. Awadallah also welcomed future cooperation with the British Council and other British universities and institutions. In addition, he pointed out the already existing cooperation agreements IUG has with universities across the world mainly in Europe.
For his part, Dr. Al-Masri highlighted IUG’s academic and research track record, pointing out that, “75 faculty members at IUG got their MA and PhD degrees from British Universities. In addition, IUG has already signed cooperation agreements with 10 British universities and several successful agreements with the British Council”.

Mr. McSharry’s visit to the Islamic University also included a tour at IRADA Project for Rehabilitation and Vocational Training, where he visited the workshops for making furniture, wood carving and painting and an exhibition to showcase the artifacts and products made at IRADA.
