A Success Story

Mr. Mohammed Abu Asaker, “The climb is full of ups and downs – and curves. It needs a lot of time and effort. However, once you reach your goal at the top, the hardships you’ve been through will be as if they never were.”

The Islamic University of Gaza is where stories start but not where stories end. It paves the path for its students to excel and to be productive.

Because IUG always seeks to inspire its students, it plants the seeds and shows the fruit to its other students to learn, to benefit, to feel motivated, and to follow the footsteps of their successful colleagues; that is why the IUG’s English Department held a video conference with one of its distinguished graduates who now works as the Spokesperson of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR   in Washington. Mr. Mohammed Abu Asaker is a hardworking, creative English language graduate who refused to have the sky as his limit. He set himself on a goal and fought his way to reach it.

“Dear students and future colleagues, IUG is the first chapter of your book. It introduces you to the world, and helps you find your destination. However, you yourselves are the key. The doors of life will not open unless you form yourself in the right way to match the key hole. You need to work hard, you need to read more, study more, explore more. See the sky? It is not your limit. The world beyond what you see is at your hands if you work hard and follow your dreams. They can come true – you know.”

Dr. Mahmoud Baroud, the Head of the English Department, seconded Mohammed’s motivational speech and encouraged the students to exert lots of efforts to be what they aim at. It is one thing to be a student, and another thing to be outside the university’s gates: it’s where the real thing is.

“It starts here in these study halls,” Mr. Abu Asaker said, “and end is where you want it to.”
