The English Department , at the Faculty of Arts, at IUG, held a conference titled ” Language and Arts of Resistance” , on Tuesday April 15th 2015, at the IUG Conferences Hall, in attendance of local and international academics and researchers from the Palestinian universities and three respected international universities.
The English Department invited Prof. Mona Baker, Associated Professor of Translation Studies and Director of Translation and International Studies at Manchester University, to be the keynote speaker, and guest of honor: Alison Phipps, Professor of Languages and Intercultural Studies Co-Convener: Glasgow Refugee Asylum and Migration Network, University of Glasgow Scotla.
IUG attendants include: Dr. Walid Amer, Faculty of Arts Dean , Dr. Akram Habeeb, English Department Head, Dr. Nazmi El-Masri, Continuing Education and Community Service Dean and professor of English Language, and faculty of arts academics.

Dr. Amer welcomed the participation of Manchester , Arizona and Glasgow universities hoping to have a strong relations with those universities, adding that the resistance literature should be the focus of every Palestinian researcher and it is a focus of a number of artists like Dr. Gassan Kanafani, who said ” Resistance literature is as important as resistance itself”, and other artists as well.
Dr. Habeeb confirmed that our message of love and peace will be continued and our spirit of resistance will not be crushed, adding that our occupiers don’t want our students to be educated.
Prof. Baker had a paper on “Translation as Renarration : Accommodation and Resistance” , and talked , through the skype, about stories that conduct the word for us confirming that translation become a part of the narrative scene.
Prof. Philipps had a paper on ” Pronouncing the world: knowing and Resisting the Arts of Oppression” , and Prof. Gramling about “The Obligation to Remember: Viktor Klemperer Undoing Occupied Language.
