The American linguist and philosopher Noam
Chomsky arrived in the Gaza strip on Thursday night, received by the Islamic
University of Gaza, to take part in 1st International Conference on Applied
Linguistics and Literature that will be held by the Faculty of Arts at IUG on Saturday,
October 20, 2012.
Chomsky heads a
delegation of 10 international intellectuals who arrived through Egypt’s Rafah
crossing, and were welcomed by Eng. Jamal N. Al-Khodari- Member of PA Parliament
and IUG Board of Trustees Chairman and Dr. Kamalain Sha’ath- IUG President.
They will participate in the conference
organized by the university’s English department.
On its first day,
Saturday, Chomsky will deliver a lecture on the Arab Spring and the future of
US foreign policy in the Arab region.
He is expected to
hold public meetings and visit government and civil society leaders during his
four-day stay.
