“Iwan” Center, at the Faculty of Engineering Wins Arab Heritage Grand Prize-2012

 

Faculty of Engineering, Center of
Architectural Heritage “Iwan”, at IUG, has received the Arab Heritage
Grand Prize-2012, which is awarded by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and
Scientific Organization (ALECSO). The award was given under the category of
“Highlighting heritage and rising its importance throughout traditional and the
new media”.

 

The award was presented by Dr.
Abdul Aziz Al Kawari, Minister of Culture, Art and Heritage of Qatar along with
Dr. Mohammad bin Ashor, Director General of ALECSO in a ceremony on Sunday,
13th May, in Qatar. On behalf of IUG, Prof. Shafik Jendia received the honorary
gift of the prize

 

The significance of the award
arises from the importance of the organization it is granted from, as a deep-rooted
organization devoted to the service of education, culture and science in the
Arab World.

 

Also its importance comes in the
light of the severe competition to qualify for this award, among the Arab and
international organizations that had great role in the preservation of the Arab
heritage.

 

It is worth to mention
that
37 files compete to win, two
files
including Italy and Spain,
and formed a jury
award of 7
of experts from Arab countries,
including a foreign professor who specializes in Arab heritage.
