Within
the agricultural pests surroundings and the increase of insecticides that also
have bad effects on agriculture, IUG entrepreneurs Hala Mohesen- 24 years old,
from IUG Mobaderoon project, tried to lease the environmental pollution; and to
develop agriculture through her new project.
This
product is produced to control Tuta absoluta. Tuta absoluta is a
pest that attacks tomatoes, causing a major damage to this essential crop in
the Mediterranean area. The larva feeds voraciously upon tomato plants,
producing large galleries in leaves, burrowing in stalks, and consuming apical
buds and green and ripe fruits. It is capable of causing a yield loss of 100%.
The
traditional way to control this pest is to use chemicals as insecticides, which
is toxic to environment and have a bad effect on public health.
Also, many species of this pathogen developed resistance to many insecticides.
This
project an alternative method which is depend on biological control
strategies will be used to control this pest. We will use a fungal
by using Entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana ( a fungus
which causes a disease known as the whitemuscardine disease in insect) . It’s
environmentally friendly way to kill the pest and reduce the loss in tomato
crop. Also, it has not any environmental impacts.
