IUG received accreditation of Ministry of Education and Higher Education Quality Unit to start an MA program in biotechnology and another BA one in bio-chemistry at the Faculty of Science from the first semester of next academic year 2011-2012.
Regarding the biotechnology master program , The Faculty of Science students who have completed bachelor degree with at least GOOD will join the program, at the following majors : biotechnology, biology, medical analysis, pharmaceutics, environmental science, biochemistry, and agriculture with its branches as : plant and animal production, nutrition, human medicine and veterinary medicine, microbiology, chemistry engineering, food engineering, genetic engineering and environmental engineering.
The program aims at preparing professionals and experts in the fields of biotechnology, and staff training in the areas of biotechnology and the development of their abilities and provide them with expertise developed so that they can contribute to effective and best investment for the technology in development projects as medical, agricultural, environmental and industrial that meet the needs of the community, along with the development of current application of Biotechnology and to undertake studies and research necessary to solve some problems scientifically through the use of genetic engineering, textile and agriculture (animal and plant), and better use of some micro-organisms and other methods.
Concerning the BA Biochemistry program which aims at preparing a group of specialists in biochemistry so they can work in the fields of education, health, industry, and enhance the ability to conduct scientific research that keep pace with scientific developments in the different branches of biochemistry which contribute to solving health problems and industrial private industries food and judge the quality of the product.
