IUG Slams Israeli Rejections to the UNESCO’s Chair

The Islamic University of Gaza
strongly denounced Israel’s objection to the UNESCO’s establishment of a chair
in astronomy, astrophysics and space sciences at the university.

“As the university condemns the occupation’s policies against
everything Palestinian and its opposition of any Palestinian institution
through distorting its image, it confirms that it is determined to continue its
scientific role and mission and the development of its vital projects to serve
and develop the Palestinian society,” the university stated on Thursday.

The university noted that the
scientific achievements that it has made disturbed the Israeli regime prompting
it to reject the UNESCO’s step as it did when it had previously opposed
Palestine’s membership in the UNESCO and the endorsement of the Church of the
Nativity as one of the world’s heritage sites.

The university expressed its
sincere thanks to the UNESCO for professionally choosing it to be a chair of
astronomy, astrophysics and space sciences.
