His highness Emir Tourki Bin Naser Bin Abed El Aziz – general director of meteorology and environment protection – has announced the winners in the international Saudi Arabia award which is 280,000$ divided into four fields: the best research in environmental management, the best application of the environmental management in the governmental devices, the best application of the environmental management in the private sector, the best practices of the environmental management for non- profit and civil organizations.
As the best research in the environmental management, Dr. Hosam El Najar- Head of environmental engineering at IUG has won the first place for his research” Pairing of geographic information systems (GIS) and model the Food and Agriculture Organization to determine and apply the irrigation water in the Gaza Strip” equally with Dr. Mohammad Al Bastusi from Egypt for his research” The integration of remote sensing with GIS for flood modeling in Valley Houdin“.
In his turn, Dr. El Najar pointed that selecting the winning research depended on full review for agriculture sector in Gaza Strip, recognition for strengths and weakness points, conception of a model agricultural policy, and maintenance of food security during geopolitical change in Gaza Strip.
Depending on the results of his research, Dr. El Najar has called the planners for reviewing the current practices of the farmers, putting long-term agricultural plans connected with the deteriorated water situation, analyzing the chemical results for agriculture water wells, looking for alternative sources for water ground.
Emphasizing that scientific research is a culture at IUG to achieve the sustainable development, Dr. Taleb Abo Shaar- IUG Vice president for research affairs has congratulated Dr. El Njar encouraging teaching staff to provide quality and serious research
In the same context, Dr. Shafiq Jendia has considered that this award enhances the scientific balance of the awards obtained by Engineering Faculty at the national, regional, and international levels.
