Community Development Institute (CDI), at IUG, held a training session on radio production. The session was a part of an ongoing journalism English diploma, where several local media practitioners receive a special training on the various media aspects, in English as a target language.
On Saturday, 18, June, 2011, Mr. Jackson Allers, expert Journalist in US, showed up on Skype to the Diploma students, briefing them in a 1.5-hour training session on the production of a radio feature.
With the help of Mr. Rami Almeghari, a Gaza-based international radio reporter and independent part-time lecturer with the CDI, Mr. Allers explained methods, types and techniques of a radio feature.
Meanwhile, the CDI will hold in mid-July a one-week training course in English on public speaking and press release, within the same journalistic diploma. Ms. Aya Batrwai, an international reporter from Cairo, will conduct the course.
On a related note, the CDI is currently preparing a worldwide one-year-long diploma of media in English, to be partly conducted via video conference in between Gaza and different parts of the world.
“Once such an ambitious academic program is implemented, many categories of the Gaza community will be benefiting from it”. Almeghari, coordinator of the project, confirmed.
According to Almeghari, the program is aimed at enabling Gaza media practitioners, with good English command; maintain a professional journalistic awareness that would improve an English media message from Gaza to international audience. Also, it would develop journalistic skills in terms of print, electronic media, radio and TV broadcasts, as well as communicative journalism.
