A delegation from the UNDP has, recently, visited the faculty of Shari’a and law. The meeting was attended by Mr. Marten Parendes, the head of the UNDP delegation, Dr. Nazmi Al-Masri, assistant to vice president of external relations, Prof. Maher Al-Holey, dean of faculty of Shari’a and law, and Mr. Hussam Ayesh, vice president of public relations.
Mr. Parendes has expressed his high appreciation for the Islamic university of Gaza and its high facilities. Mr. Parendes’ speech was focused on the UNDP project that was launched in March 2010, and has a support from three main donors: Holland, Canada, and Sweden.
Mr. Parendes added that the universities do play a great role in achieving the objectives of the project that are supporting the prevalence of law in both: the Gaza strip and the west bank, establishing law clinics, and offering the citizens all kind of law support. He, also, emphasized that they consider the project as a mission, and not only a job.
Dr. Al-Masri, through his speech, talked about the units, centers, and other different facilities of the IUG. Also, he showed a great interest of the law programs, especially, the ones that are taught in English as a step towards breaking the barriers of the language among the participants of the project.
Prof. Al-Holey talked about the high interest of his faculty to teach law, and to raise the law awareness through its section of Sharea and Law. Prof. Al-Holey added that his faculty fulfills these goals through the different workshops, and the specialized lectures. in addition, Prof. Al-Holey sheds the light on the principal goal of the faculty that is prevailing the legislative development and raising the culture of law among the Palestinian community.
