Faculty of Medicine Participates at International Conference for Arab Medical Faculties

Dr. Mufeed Al Mukhalalatey, Faculty of Medicine Dean, at the IUG, has participated, recently, at THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MEDICAL EDUCATION AND ACADEMIC ACCREDITATION and THE SEVENTH MEETING FOR THE DEANS OF THE ARAB MEDICAL FACULTIES, that was hosted by the University of Science and Technology in the Republic of Yemen, with the participation of the International Federation for Medical Education, and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Dr. Ali Mohammed Mejwar, the Yemeni prime minister, Dr.Abed Al-Kareem Yehya Rase’, Yemini Minister of Health, Dr. Saleh Pasera, Yemini Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Hameed Aklan, chancellor of Science and Technology University, Dr. AbduAllah Alsaedy, vice president of World Health Organization- Eastern Mediterranean office, and Professor Steven Landgren, International Federation for Medical Education chief, attended the first session of the conference.

A variety of medical issues were discussed at the conference such as: modern international methods of medical education; obstacles facing applying these methods; experiences of Arabic medical schools; international standards for the recognition medical schools; and the role of the international federation for medical education and the world health organization in evaluating the regional standards for the recognition of the Arabic faculties of medicine.

The conference called for exchanging the experiences, adopting a new system for medical education and academic accreditation in the Eastern Mediterranean region to fit with the standards of the international federation for medical education.

Dr. Al Mukhalalaty has met Professor Steven Landgren, the head of the international federation for medical education, Doctor Waleed Abu Baker, the head of the medical education in the world health organization, and discussed with them the possibility of the cooperation with the faculty of medicine at the IUG in order to develop its methods of medical education.

Dr. Al Mukhalalaty, also, met Dr. Abed Al Kareem Abu Samaha, the director of the university clinic at the University Science and technology, and discussed with him the experience of the University Science and technology in the field of medical education.

It is worthy mentioned that the deans of the Arabic faculties of medicine has praised the experience of the faculty of medicine of IUG, and its ability to stand and create despite of the siege.
