Islamic University of Gaza has awarded Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan the title of honorary doctorate. Prime Minister Erdogan said at the ceremony at the Prime Ministry Residence in Ankara, “the Islamic University of Gaza has been serving under very difficult conditions such as bombs, bullets and occupation for 32 years. I congratulate you for your academic struggle under those conditions on behalf of my people.”
“Turkey has historical and friendly ties with Palestine for a long time. We have always shared grief and joy of Palestinian people throughout our history. But, our current interest in Gaza stems totally from humanitarian reasons beyond our historical ties with Palestine. On every possible occasion, we are telling the world that innocent civilians and children should not be killed, schools and hospitals should not be bombed. We raise our voice for children in Gaza, Haiti, Chile and China,” he said.
MP. Jamal Naji Al-Khodari, Board of Trustees Chairman, at IUG, said at the ceremony that Islamic university of Gaza, with its three campuses, was the biggest in Palestine with 30 thousand students.
MP. Al-Khodari said that Erdogan was the hope of all Gazan people, West Bank, Jerusalem and Palestine.
Dr. Kamalain Kamel Sha’ath, IUG President, confirmed that the University decided to award Prime Minister Erdogan with the title of honorary doctorate for his meritorious efforts to put an end to the atrocity against Palestinian people in Gaza.
