“Winning the Islamic Development Bank Prize for improvement, science and technology is a great achievement and big success which we all are proud of as it comes after a sever plight and fierce war”, MP Jamal Naji AL-Khodari, Head of Board of Trustees at IUG, said.
MP Al-Khodari added that destroying 74 engineering and scientific labs didn’t kill the will of the Faculty of Engineering as the work in IUG is an integrated teamwork. He congratulated IUG and the Faculty of Engineering for this success saying, “This honorable success is a boon for the patient Palestinian People who resist the occupation with more education, learning and creativity”.
MP Al-Khodari praised IUG graduates who prove to the world that they can go on despite of all challenges and obstacles, and he motivated them to do their best to be distinguished and innovated. Furthermore, he mentioned that the university is going to resume building the medical city.
MP Al-Khodari has been saying these words during the celebration that took place in Conferences Room at IUG to celebrate the success of the Faculty of Engineering represented in winning IDB prize for improvement, science and technology.
Dr. Kamalen Sha’ath, IUG President, Prof. Shafeeq Jondya, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Engineer, Zeyad Al-Zaza, Vice Prime Minister, Minister of National Economics, Dr. Osama Al-Esawi, Minister of Culture and transportation, Dr. Yousof Al-Mansi, Minister of Communication and Information Technology, members of Board of Trustees, members of the University Council, representatives of universities and colleges in Gaza Strip, representatives of governmental, private and civil society institutions, workers in IUG, workers in media and a big numbers of students from the Faculty of Engineering attended the celebration.
“We are happy and proud of this success that overcomes the imposed siege that prevented IUG from academic and scientific contact with the external world”, said Dr. Sha’ath.
Dr. Sha’ath appreciated the perseverance and strong will of the Faculty of Engineering among 18 years of its establishment saying that winning IDB prize is a good omen that shows the steadfastness and persistence of the faculty.
Dr. Sha’ath added that this is the second time that IUG wins IDB prize as in 2006, the Faculty of Science has won it.
Dr. Sha’ath congratulated staff of supervisors, MP Jamal Al-Khodari, Head of Board of Trustees, members of Board of Trustees, Prof. Mohammed Shober and Prof. Mohammed Saqer, Ex- Presidents of IUG and Deans of Scientific research who did their best and reaped the fruits of their great efforts.
On his turn, Prof. Jondya, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering declared that his faculty has contributed to the scientific field with 220 scientific works adding that the faculty contributes to the fields of: technology, science, economics, environment, sociology and e-learning.
Prof. Jondya mentioned that the faculty also collaborates with the society in many ways such as: signing agreements, making partnerships and supporting the society. He called the members of the Faculty of Engineering to be distinguished in their researches and to be accurate in analyzing and documenting information. Moreover, he praised the students of the Faculty of Engineering for their great efforts in doing many distinguished researches. He finally thanked the staff members of the faculty for their unity and the respect between them.
At the end of the celebration, MP Al-Khodari and Dr. Sha’ath opened the exhibition of the Faculty of Engineering which shows, by photos, the success of the faculty and sheds light on its academic departments, programs in BA and MA degrees, scientific researches, centers and labs.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Ali, President of Islamic Development Bank Group stated that the Faculty of Engineering deserves IDB prize for many reasons. One of them is that it is interested in scientific research, and distinguished by its academic level and staff despite of all obstacles and challenges.
Moreover, the Faculty of Engineering is concerned with electronic learning and serving the community. Besides, the Faculty of Engineering includes distinguished departments; one of them is the Environmental Engineering Department which has been established two years ago. The faculty succeeded in overcoming the lack of construction materials by recycling construction residues and using them in construction process. In addition, the faculty tended to develop low-cost housing projects as a solution for the lack of construction projects.
