Dr. Kamalain Sha’ath, IUG President, received a UNESCO delegation headed by Dr. Oyvind Wistrom, Educational Specialist at UNESCO and accompanied with Ms. Jo Kelcey, Monitoring and Reporting Officer at UNESCO, and Dr. Ellen Carm, External Relations Consultant at UNESCO, to witness the conditions of students after the Gaza War and the effect of siege on the students’ ability to continue their education.
Prof. Muhammed Shabat, Vice IUG President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Sana’ Abu Daga, Assistant of Vice IUG President for Academic Affairs and Chief of Quality Unit, Dr. Bassam El-Saqa, Assistant of Vice IUG President for Academic Affairs, Mr. Husam Ayesh, Vice Director of Public Relations Office, attended the meeting.
Dr. Sha’ath appreciated the visit of the delegation and briefed them of some university facilities and services that are offered to students and community as well.
Prof. Shabat talked about students’ sufferings after the imposed siege and the latest war on Gaza Strip confirming on the dangerous conditions of higher education institutions if such a siege continue; adding that students are in a big need for the support of individuals, institutions and organizations.
Dr. Abu Daga confirmed that the blockade affected every aspect within the life of students whether directly or indirectly calling that academic life should not stop in such bad conditions.
