Heritage Architectural Center, at the IUG Faculty of Engineering, began implementing a project to develop historical buildings in Gaza City, in cooperation with the International Red Cross.
Eng. Husam al-Din Dawoud – Director of Heritage Architectural Center – said that the project is divided into two phases; the first phase includes the provision of a healthy environment in the Palestinian residential areas by cleaning the ancient buildings of the waste, and removing the trees and the plants, insects and harmful animals that may lead to damage the building.
Mr. Dawoud mentioned that the second phase includes the maintenance of some parts of the historic buildings; to protect it from worsening the damage, and provide an environment suitable for residential tenants, where a large part of historic buildings in the old towns in Gaza is populated despite the deteriorating housing situation for some.
