Faculty of Arts, at IUG, Holds a Cultural Conference entitled “Palestine … 61 Years after Nakba (catastrophe)”

Under the auspices of Prime Minister, Ismael Haniya, Faculty of Arts, at IUG, held the fourth annual educational cultural conference entitled “Palestine … 61 Years after Nakba (catastrophe)”.

The conference was held at the central conferences hall of Islamic University of Gaza and key local and regional personalities attended the conference.

Dr. Ahmad Bahar, Deputy Chairman of Palestinian Legislative Council, Prof. Yosif Rezqa, Representative of Prime Minister and his political consultant, Mr. Muhammed Sham’a, vice chairman of IUG Board of Trustees, Dr. Kamalain Sha’ath, IUG President, Prof. Mahmoud Al-Amodi, Faculty of Arts Dean, Dr. Fawzi Abu Fayyad, Vice Dean of Arts Faculty and the director of preparation committee, Mr. Salman Abu Sitta, chief of Rights of Return Conference from Kuwait “talking via telephone”, a number of representatives from PLC, governmental, NGOs and private institutions, attended the conference.

Dr. Rizqa confirmed on the determination and adherence of all rights especially the right of return and independency calling upon increasing knowledge among the Palestinian people in right of return.

Dr. Abu Sitta stated that there should be a Palestinian leadership which represented 11 million Palestinian refugees around the world to protect the whole Palestinian right.

Mr. Abu Sham’a talked about three episodes in the history of the Palestinian people adding that there were 20 years between each episode.

Dr. Sha’ath talked about the importance of such conference to put the Palestinian right in the memory of the Palestinian people adding that the university included the Palestinian issue in its academic programs and activities.

Prof. Al-Amodi stated that there were 41 train stations, 6000 Km roads for transport, 2000 places of worship, 2650 water resources before the Palestinian catastrophe adding that human rights studies referred that there were 700 destroyed villages, 141 massacres, including 70 war crimes and mass destruction.

The conference continued its activities from 16-17 May, 2009 to conclude some studies and researches in the field of the Palestinian history after the occupation of Palestinian land in 1948.
