A meeting through the video conference was held between students from Cambridge University, one of the top ten universities in the world, with students from Islamic University of Gaza, Al-Azhar University of Gaza, Al-Aqsa University in Gaza, and University College of Applied Sciences to take actions in solidarity with academic institutions in the Gaza Strip.
Dr. Akram Habib, professor of English Literature at IUG, Mr. Husam Ayesh, Vice Director of Public Relations Office, Dr. Basil Skaik, professor from Al-Azhar University, and students from different universities around the Gaza Strip met Mr. Wesam Amer, M.A student at Cambridge and coordinator of the meeting, with a group of students from Cambridge University in Britain.
Cambridge students confirmed that they have continued their campaign of solidarity with IUG and the academic institutions in Gaza which included demands of support with the Gaza students.
Mr. Ayesh talked about the university destruction after the Israeli attack in which 74 labs were missed and students suffered the lack of materials to do their experiments in the scientific and engineering fields.
Dr. Habib described the Gaza Strip as a big jail included people who don’t have their daily substances and can’t participate in any external activity around the world because of the imposed siege.
Gaza Students talked about the bad situation of the Gaza academic institutions and their lack of ability to communicate with the world. “Scholarships are cancelled because of the closed borders around the Gaza Strip” one student said.
