Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) celebrated the graduation of 27th group of students under the auspices of Prime Minister Ismail Haniya. IUG will hold the ceremonies for its 27 class of undergraduate and postgraduate students from July 19, 2008 till July 31, 2008.
With graduates’ family members and friends, university officials, other academic leaders, politicians and community leaders in attendance, IUG president Dr. Kamalain Shaath conferred Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees upon 3000 students.
“It is with great honour that I confer degrees upon this 27 class,” said Dr. Kamalain Shaath “These students will forever hold a special place in IUG history as they complete their studies under the imposed siege on the whole area of the Gaza Strip.
“At IUG our goal is to inspire and encourage our students to their greatest potential and so it is with great pride that we celebrate this important accomplishment in their lives, graduation day.” Mr. Jamal Al-Khodari, chairman of Board of Trustees, said.
Mr. Al-Khodari described this graduated class of the “class of facing siege” as the university students encountered many difficulties as an effect of the imposed siege on the Gaza Strip.
Mr. Al-Khodari expressed his high gratitude to the institutions that supported IUG along its 30 years journey of achievements in serving society.
The chairman of Board of Trustees referred to the IUG history, progress and future planning to enlarge its buildings and to build new campuses, including: an IT city, a medical city and scientific applied institute.
Dr. Shaath referred that IUG is the first in Palestine in the numbers of its students who are more than 20,000 students studied in ten faculties distributed into tens of programs including more than 20 M.A programs.
Dr. Shaath added that the University will include new programs in the field of Engineering and law.
Today’s graduates will go on to careers in engineering, and several innovative fields including science, education, business and commerce, and information technology security among many others.

In addition to celebrating Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees, the first day of the ceremony also honoured the University academic staff and the Board of Trustees members.
