IUG Student Awarded Google Summer of Code 2008 Award

Ahmed Hasan Al-Hasani, IUG student at the faculty of Engineering, has been awarded Google summer of Code in the first Palestinian participation.

Google Summer of Code 2008 has brought together over 1500 students and 2000 mentors from 90 countries worldwide, all for the love of code. This year, were welcoming 1125 student contributors and 175 Free and Open Source projects into the program.

Al-Hasani reported that 150 companies, 200 American universities and a group of American and Europe scientific research institutions has been included in the Google project.

Dr. Ayman Abu Samra, director of scientific development at the Engineering Faculty, said that Ahmeds winning represents a new creativity added to the Palestinian progress despite the total siege on the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Marwan Ridwan, Director of Palestinian National Authority for Internet names and the supervisor of the student, said” I noticed distinguished abilities in developing programs, creative thinking and Logical analysis” adding that this award will put Al-Hasani on contact with the IT international institutions and will give him the chance to get the benefit from the scientific research.
