Targeting the Academic Institutions in Palestine

Targeting the Academic Institutions in Palestine
On Thursday, an Israeli warplane fired a missile in Gaza City that hit inside the soccer field of the Islamic University of Gaza. The operation came after a series of attacks that targeted the main bridges and roads in Gaza Strip as well as the only power station that feeds the Gazans.
The Islamic University of Gaza which is the largest academic institution in Palestine that houses more than 17,000 students and envisions its role in the advancement of knowledge, providing higher quality education, encouraging academic and scientific research, serving the local community, and promoting dialogue of civilizations expresses its deep concern.
The Islamic University of Gaza which is a member of several international academic leagues and associations (International Association of Universities, Community of Mediterranean Universities, Association of Arab Universities, and Association of Islamic Universities) seriously foresees this act as a dangerous sign towards targeting the civil institutions that provide basic needs to the community. We therefore call the international community to support the efforts of the Islamic University by condemning the Israeli act and do their utmost efforts to stop the Israeli government from targeting the academic institutions that aid in developing the community.
We appreciate your prompt action and concern.

Best Regards,

Dr. Kamalain Shaath,
President of the Islamic University of Gaza
