Faculty of Education at the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) organized its second conference “Palestinian Child between Challenges and Aspiration” on 22nd November, 2005 which was attended by specialists from different universities.
In the opening ceremony, Mr Jamal AlKhodary, Chairman of Board of Trustees, concentrated on holding this conference especially after the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza strip and the Palestinian child suffering during the occupation and the psychological impact.
He added that Palestinian children will be approaching the future with establishing the first technology center for excellence to meet their needs in the field of high technology.
Dr Abdellah Abdelmonem, Deputy of Minister of Higher Education said that IUG held such conferences to meet the need of Palestinian community. He added that Palestinian children should be treated in better conditions under a strategy supported by different institutions as they lived deprived environment. Dr Abdelmoneem called schools, media, and family to pay greater attention for children.
Dr Kamalain Shaat, IUG President, welcomed the participants and the guests. He compared in his speech between a child that looked after well and another deprived in hard conditions. He added that the more care we pay for children the better future they live as they are affected by the environment. Dr Shaat encouraged researchers to work hard to achieve better future for their children and assured IUG support for activities meet community needs.
Professor Ibrahim Eid, Chairman of Psychology Department at Ein Shams University in Egypt, congratulated the attendants and IUG for organizing such a conference in difficult conditions. He talked about challenges Palestinian children face and the necessity for encouraging environment for those Children
It’s worth mentioning that the conference lasts for 2 days and included 6 sessions with 30 papers presented by 50 researchers and funded by ANERA.
Prof Mohmoud Abu Daff, Conference Chairman and Dean of Faculty of Education, talked about Palestinian child as a model for world children. He mentioned concerns of his faculty on children issues.
On his turn, Dr Elyan Alholy, Chairman of Conference Committee, said that holding the conference was as a result of the first conference recommendations.
