Announcement A training course: Socio-cultural semiotic study of Palestinian films on gender-based violence (GBV) and peace building

The English Language Department at the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) would like to announce that a capacity building oriented research training will be delivered to 15 gender balanced participants according to the details below.

This training course is part of a research to be conducted as part of an international project with the University of Glasgow, UK, titled Culture for Sustainable and Inclusive Peace Network Plus (CUSP).

Course Objective

To practice socio-cultural, semiotic analysis of five Palestinian films discussing gender issues and peace building in Palestine.


  • Two-day capacity building training course starting from 9am -3pm.
  • Expected training dates 20-25 August 2022.

Selection criteria

  1. Currently enrolled master students at IUG English Language Department, priority is given to them.
  2. Currently enrolled Fourth level Bachelor students who have finished at least (80+ credit hours).
  3. Have at least 85%
  4. Interested in socio-cultural semiotic analysis of Palestinian films discussing gender issues and peace building in Palestine.
  5. Complete all the sections on the application form.
