Information Day of Erasmus+ 2020 Call For Proposals

IUG External Relations hosts Dr. Nedal Jayousi, National Erasmus+ Officer in Palestine, and representatives of Gazan Universities this day in IUG Tiba Building to discuss the cutting-edge developments of Erasmus+ 2020 call for proposals.

 IUG President Prof. Nasser Farahat welcomed and appreciated the presence of Dr. Jayousi in Gaza, saying that Erasmus+ project is of great significance and as he described: "today we are reaping the fruits of the project".  

Dr. Jayousi extended his wholehearted appreciation to all Gazan Universities that participated in different Erasmus programs, mentioning that Islamic University, in particular, has had a vibrant activity in Erasmus programs.

Interviewing Dr. Jayousi in Tiba Building, he said that: "This is the first time that Erasmus+ holds an Information Day in Gaza to present about the Capacity Building".

"Gaza is the winner of 70% of Erasmus programs since the start. This session was moderated by Eng. Hatem Abo Sultan from the University College of Applied Sciences, in which Prof. Jayousi presented a general overview about the concept of capacity building in the field of Higher Education and the projects' consortium. He, in addition, clarified some matters related to Erasmus+ System such as the policy, the cooperation between universities, handling, as well as, the students' international mobility.

Dr. Jayousi zoomed in the CBHE principles and objectives. This capacity building project achieves the concept of modernization of higher education institutions, regional integration, competences skills, management governance, internationalization through students' mobility, and raising the quality of Higher Education.

"Now there is 50 CBHE projects offered by Erasmus", he reported.

The presentation also included CBHE Types of projects: The Joint Project has its impact on curriculum development, university governance and management, link between HE institutions and the wider economic and social environment. In addition, the Structural Project has its impact on the modernization of policies, governance and management of higher education system, and links between HE systems and the wider economic and social environment.

Third Session

It was moderated by Prof. Hisham Madi, Vice-Dean of External Relations, showing the skills of applying for International Credit Mobility, Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree, and Jean Monnet Projects. Dr. Nedal Jayousi, in this session, shed the lights on the national projects and multi-country projects and the way to apply for them. He, also, asserted that the budget for any Erasmus Project cannot be less than 1/2 Million EUR,not more tham Million, whereas the duration is approximately happening between 24-36 months. The Budget's categories are included staff costs 40%, travel costs, costs of stay, equipment %30. While, the types of costs are real costs and unit costs.

Experiences of Managers of CBHE projects were displayed by Prof. Wael Al Daya who deliberated about the formulation of BERC Project at Islamic University, and Prof. Nabil El Aila, Dean of External Relations at Alaqsa University who presented about their experience in the Erasmus mobility projects.

Interviewing Prof. El Aila at the end of the Information Day, he reported that (5) students and academics from his university got chances this year to travel to Turkey through the International Credit Mobility program. "The experience was fruitful and left finger prints on the academic level," he said.

Dr. Jayousi, furthermore, made matters clear about the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJND) and Jean Monnet for innovation projects. He manifested the concepts and uncovered the results of the Erasmus+ EMJND calls for proposals 2014-2019. Finally, he declared how to participate as an organization or individual for the project, throwing the lights on the funding possibilities for each category. Plus, Dr. Jayousi detailed about the information sources of EMJMD.  


The Information Day has been ended by creating a survey for (37%) females and (63%) males from the attendees to give their feedbacks on the information day proceedings and questions related to the program in general. This part was moderated by Eng. Amani AlMaqadma, Coordinator of Erasmus Program at IUG. She declared that the statistic for the question " how would you rate your knowledge for achieving project" was moderate, while " how would you rate your knowledge about the CBHE after the session" was very high (56%). "The knowledge skills and information gathered during the session either to apply or to be a partner of the project" was very high 53%. "Are you ready to support the new colleagues at your institution" was 97% yes, 3% No.

It's worth noting that Dr. Jayousi's visit's will last two days ahead to include field monitoring for BERC and ROMOR Projects beside his participation in the Information Day of Erasmus+ 2020 Call for Proposals.
